Everything LaikaPDF stands on, and who wrote it.

Last updated

Generated from the application’s own manifests, so it cannot fall out of step with what actually ships.

Translated for convenience. The English version is the only authoritative one and prevails in the event of any discrepancy, whatever language the site is displayed in.

01How to read this page

LaikaPDF stands on other people’s work. This page names all of it, with the licence each piece is published under. It is generated from the application’s own manifests rather than written by hand, so it cannot quietly fall out of step with what actually ships.

Two of these licences place obligations on you as well, not only on the publisher. Those are set out in sections 04 and 05.

02Runtime components

The application ships with 31 direct dependencies, every one of them under the MIT licence. Each remains the property of its authors and is distributed under its own terms.

03The MIT licence

Reproduced once, as the licence requires, for every MIT component above. Copyright is held by the respective authors. The licence text itself is left in English, which is the only version its authors published.

04Language models

No model ships inside the application. Each is downloaded, at your request, from its author’s official repository, and remains governed by the licence that author granted — not by these pages. The application displays the licence before you download.

05Attributions required by their authors

Built with Llama

Llama 3.1 and Llama 3.2 are published by Meta under the Llama Community Licence, which requires this attribution to be displayed and the licence to travel with the model. Llama is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc. Use of these models is subject to the Llama Community Licence Agreement and to Meta’s Acceptable Use Policy, both of which bind you directly if you install one.

Gemma

Gemma 3 is published by Google under the Gemma Terms of Use, which carry a Prohibited Use Policy. By installing a Gemma model you agree to those terms, and they continue to apply to anything you generate with it. The publisher of LaikaPDF passes them on to you and adds nothing to them.

Google ML Kit

On-device text recognition is provided by Google ML Kit, used through the @react-native-ml-kit/text-recognition module. Recognition runs locally on the device; the component itself is governed by Google’s API terms of service.

arXiv & OpenAlex

Paper search uses the public interfaces of arXiv and OpenAlex. Neither endorses this application. Papers you download remain subject to their own licences, which differ from one paper to the next.

06This website

The typefaces are Fraunces and Inter, both published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and served from this site. The site loads no analytics, no advertising and no third-party script whatsoever.
